April 2007

It's time to think change!

In two (2) months we will be voting for the new officers for our council year 2007 - 2008.  If you are interested in an office for the coming year, now is the time to tell someone.  Our council thrives on the continuity of our officers and program directors.

These next monthly m meetings will be very important to each one of us;  and not because you will be nominated for a job if you are not present!  We have some important decisions to make before the end of the year so I need each of you to attend our next meetings.  The April 18th meeting will be a business meeting;  please be there!

How we spend our money and how we replace that money is a very important issue.

Welcome our NEW,

4th Degree Patriotic Knights

March 30 - April 1 is a weekend I will never forget.  Not just because it was a beautiful weekend, or it was a couple of days away from home to break the winter doldrums or even to see our 4th degree friends and dress up in our tux and parade around.  No, it was to be with 6 friends as they went through the 4th degree exemplification and to be part of support group to help them and enjoy this weekend with them.  There were 24 of us with the Father Joseph Mosley Assembly.

The weekend started on Friday when everyone gathered at the Hospitality Suite at the Venice Inn in Hagerstown, MD. By 6pm almost everyone was there, plus a few hanger's on from the Father Lutz Assembly in Chestertown, MD.  We all (about) 40 by now went to the local Elks Club for dinner and some presentations.  The menu had plenty of good selections, especially seafood.  I don't know about the rest but the Halibut was wonderful.  Faithful Navigator Bob Appell thanked everyone for their participation this year and designated Jim Jennings as Knight of The Year for the contributions he has made to our assembly.  Everyone returned to our hospitality room and made new acquaintances, relaxed and made plans for the ceremony for the men and the gathering for the women the next day

After breakfast everyone dressed for the day and returned to the hospitality room.  Our assembly has a support system for our candidates where each new member has a 'Guardian Angle' to make sure the candidate is dressed correctly, gets to the hotel and is signed in correctly (and, yes I spelled it correctly, ask anyone in the assembly).

The Knights of Columbus is not a secret organization, our books and agenda is open to anyone interested;  however our ceremonials are secret so no one can take our installation information or use it to ridicule or degrade our order.  It is enough to say the 4th degree Patriotic Ceremony is on of the most moving I have seen.

Our new 4th Degree Knights are:

Father Norman Carroll

Michael Porter

Howard Reardon Jr.

Christopher Spinner

Daniel Tuel Jr.

  Robert 'Mickey' Usilton

In Hagerstown, MD on Palm Sunday weekend there were knights from West Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia and Delaware assembled for the 4th Degree Exemplification.  This year the class had 174 knights and some of the bigger assemblies had 20 or 30 candidates.  I can promise you they were not as happy and proud as our group from Saint Joan of Arc.  Our small council of 71 members boasts 23 4th degree knights (that is an unbelievable 32% of our membership).

Caroline County Summer Fest!
We need your help at the April 18 meeting

The committee, with Walt Scanlan, Mike Porter, Chris Spinner and Jeff Parenteau has proposed some things we need to purchase before we tackle our next Summer Fest.  Some of these are absolutely necessary for our Health Department Standards, and some will let us sell more Prime Roast Beef.

The 3 primary things we are working to improve will help us earn more money so we can do more for our parish.

Number One, ~ we ran out of beef at our booth several times on both days and at critical periods of time.
Number Two, ~ we did not manage our resources of manpower and well.
Number Three, ~ we did not have enough roast beef to cook to feed the customers.

Click here for a list of the suggested Summer Fest Equipment :

Spending this money is an important decision.  We need everyone to weigh in and vote on these purchases.  Please attend the meeting on April 18th at the FLC to help us make this decision!

Our next Super Sunday is on May 6th!

This is a special day and we will have some SPECIAL Guests!  Many of our 1st Communicants will have their families in from all over to celebrate this day with them.  Where better to celebrate then at our famous breakfast at the Family Life Center.  Let's make our breakfast for this important day one to remember.

The Fifteen Promises of Mary to Those Who Recite the Rosary

1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the rosary, shall receive signal graces.

2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the rosary.

3. The rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.

4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things.  Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the rosary, shall not perish.

6. Whoever shall recite the rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune.  God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.

7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.

8. Those who are faithful to recite the rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise.

9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the rosary.

10. The faithful children of the rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in heaven.

11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the rosary.

12. All those who propagate the holy rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.

13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.

14. All who recite the rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ.

15. Devotion of my rosary is a great sign of predestination.

Many Catholics are unaware of the Promises Mary made to the children at Fatima, and to the world.
