Grand Knight's Letter

Grand Knights letter

April 2008

Brother Knights, I am truly blessed and humbled to know you and to be in your presence. What a great job you all did in making the Oyster & Bull Roast a success and a joy to be involved with. One of the big reasons it went so well was the team work that took place. Everybody did what they could, and did it well. I can not say enough about what you all did in making this Oyster & Bull Roast a successful event!

As a Knights of Columbus council, we are a thriving and growing organization. It is because of each one of you, we have become what we are and to were we will go. There are others that will become more involved, because of you! It is never too late to start getting involved!!! I think it is an honor to be a Catholic man and to belong to St. Joan of Arc Council. Through the charity and caring we do, we are doing Gods’ work.

It was a blessing for Lynn and I to have the opportunity to go to the Mass celebrated by the Pope, in the National Stadium in D.C. Most likely I will never get that chance again in my life to see Pope Benedict XVI Celebrate Mass. Once in a life time!!!! I will tell you it was worth getting up at 2:15 am, driving to D.C. and struggle through the multitude of people. I could go on about it, but all I will say now is that it was very spiritually uplifting and after seeing the successor of St. Peter and hearing him, I thank God that I am a Catholic. Please ask me about it, I would be glad to tell you more!

God Bless you all!

Grand Knight

Chris Spinner

Pete Schirmer                       Joe Kidwell

Each year we attempt to grow with a few new dedicated knights to help share in the work we do locally and through out the world.  We are famous for supporting our church, our Bishops and Priests and the Pope.  Our goal is only 5 new men a year and so far this year we have enlisted 2 new members;  we need 3 more men.

Our membership stands now at 72 members and we are striving for 75 this year.  Our parish has many 'Good Catholic Men' who would join us if they were asked.  Each of us has the responsibility to seek out these 'Good Catholic Men' and offer them the opportunity to be a member of the greatest Catholic Fraternity on earth, and we number more then 7 Million Men.

Each of us are required to attain the highest degree of professionalism we can reach.  There are 4 degrees in our fraternity and each of them has a separate theme we learn about the Knights of Columbus.  Each of us need to become at least a 3rd Degree Knight;  and a 4th degree if you are invited.

Now, get out there and recruit those men who are missing out on our brotherhood!

The Beef and Oyster Dinner was another GREAT success, thanks to Grand Knight Chris Spinner and Jeff Parenteau, and all the knights who pitched in to make the day a success.  We had Kitchen workers Friday and Saturday.  On Saturday our knight's came early (by 9am).   Roasts and onions were sliced, potatoes, beans and macaroni were prepared.   Everything was setup and ready for the 1pm opening;  but, some guests showed up at 12:30pm

Of the 100 people who bought tickets, several didn't show up and missed a great dinner.

The Mother's Day Flower sale (May 11th) will be coming up soon and it is always well received by the Parish.  Even passers - by stop to take advantage of our selection of flowers.

#

Also in May, the Memorial Day Funnel Cake Booth opens at the Ridgely Strawberry Festival on May 25th.  We have the 'best' funnel cakes around and our customers know it.

#

Saint Joan of Arc has taken on the repair of the flagpole at St. Elizabeth's Church.  We will make repairs and look into setting a Flagpole at St. Benedicts Church.

# Greensboro Elementary School will receive the money collected from our Tootsie Roll Drive.  Mickey and Mary Usilton gave out Tootsie Rolls and received donations enough that we can present the school with a check for $500.00 dollars.

Keep up the GOOD WORK!
