August 2007

I would like to say with an enormous thank you to Kevin Parks.  For putting in the wiring and checking out the new ovens that we will be using for Summerfest. We don’t have much time before we start cooking, and Kevin installed the wiring in a timely manner. If you see him please say Thank you from the Knights.

If you plan to help in the “booth” at Summerfest please let me know. Are goal this year is not to sell out, and or not have enough roast beef on hand. Our booth will be twice as big as it has been in the past, and we should break all our past records in sales. Please help us, so we can help others!

Pull out your calendars and mark down the date of 09/19/07 at 6:30PM for our Installation of Officers. We will start in the Church with Mass, then the installation, and end with fellowship and heavy hors d’oeuvres (appetizers) in the Church Hall. All of our Bother Knights are invited, please make all effort, to attend.

See you at Summerfest!!!!!

God Bless us all!

Congratulations to our New Officers

2007 - 2008

Saint Joan's Installation of Officers Ceremony will be Wednesday, September 19th At Saint Benedicts Church, in Ridgely.  Father Norm will say Mass at 6pm and the installation of officers will be immediately following.

After the ceremony we will all do to the Family Life Center for food and fellowship, provided by Susie's Kitchen.  We all know what that means, good food and plenty of it, topped off with more deserts then you can imagine.

Everyone should attend our Installation of Officers with their wife.  This is the 2nd of our social gatherings of the year and it's important that our families know our council officers.  As a family fraternity, the closer we are as a group, the stronger we are and the more we can accomplish.

The Father Mosley Color Corp will be asked to participate at the Mass and the Installation of Officers.  We have enough of our own 4th degree members, who are not officers, to participate in the Color Corps.

Each of you in the 4th degree should wear your tux (black jacket) and be prepared to be in our ceremony, as color corps members or escorts.  Let's make this Instillation one to remember!  That's Wednesday, September 19th!

August 17th - 18th is the Caroline County Summer Fest Weekend!

Saint Joan's Knights will be cooking 'prime roast beef' in the FLC and selling sandwiches in our booth in front of the Mercantile Bank in Denton.  This year we have a new (to us) cooker - warmer to help us have more roast beef ready for sandwiches.  The beef will still be cooked at the FLC and transported to the booth in the heated boxes, but we'll be able to start cooking earlier and have more beef warming and ready to be transported.

Many of our knights will be called upon to help out on this weekend, it takes a lot of teamwork to pull this off.  Everyone at the booth and the kitchen will need some relief over the long 10 - 12 hour days.

Saint Joan's will help sponsor a fellow Knights son for Eagle Scout!

The highest rank you can achieve in Scouting is the Eagle rank.  To do this a scout must advance from 'Tenderfoot' though the steps 1st class, 2nd class - Life etc. and earn 24 Merit Badges in the process.  Merit Badges are the extra-curricular work a scout must do to learn about nature and his community.

Less then 20% of our scouts become Eagle Scouts and it is a prestigious order, "The Order of Eagle Scouts";  you are not just a member, you are a member for 'life'.  Being an 'Eagle' adds to your score for college and the military;  which means faster acceptance and promotion.  It is NOT easy to obtain or given out recklessly.

Schuyler Fearins, son of Jessie and Nancy is working toward his Eagle Scout Award.  I say working because each scout must complete an 'Eagle Project', for the betterment of the community, before his eagle is awarded.  Schuyler's Eagle Project is to build a toilet a the Galena in the "Wild-Life Management Area".

He has building plans to follow and he will enlist the help of his fellow scouts in the project.  When his project is completed Schuyler will have many hours and experience working with his fellow scouts toward his goal.

Saint Joan of Arc will contribute $100.00 to Schuyler's project and urge him on toward the Eagle Rank.

I'm sure you have seen Schuyler, he has been one of our Altar Servers for several years.

How about a Bull and Oyster Roast Dinner?

Grand Knight (and Chef extraordinaire) Chris Spinner is planning for a fall dinner as a social event for all our members and the parish will be invited.  It will be a fundraiser to help us pay for the new cooker/warmer in the FLC kitchen.  The Easton Council has used the Moose to put on a dinner for them and the price has been $25.00 per person.  If we do our own work we may be able to shave some of this cost for our Parish.

Look for this 'Gala Dinner' soon in the fall.  Chris is working with the parish office for a suitable date.

Fall Flower and Fruit Sale

Each year we have our Flower and Fruit sale in early Fall and we're hoping to have it in September.  Mike Musachio is still recovering from his heart operation, but has promised to guide us through it again.

We're hoping the parish community will support us again this year as they have in the past.

We are still searching for new members!

With the beginning of a new year, and new officers, we are searching for 5-6 new men to fill our ranks as knights.  The more members we have the more we can do for our parish, and our community.

There will be another 1st Degree Ceremony in Easton on September 11th!  Do you know someone who is interested in becoming a Knight of Columbus?

ALSO

There will be a 2nd Degree Ceremony in Easton, at the Regina Coeli Council Hall, on Wednesday, August 15th at 8pm.
