Grand Knight's Letter

Grand Knights letter

We made it though another Christmas holiday. Well most of us did! I try to slow down and remember the “reason for the season”, but as with most of us it gets the better of us at times. I am just glad that we haven’t taken Christ out of Christmas, even though there are groups still trying to do it. I pray that you all were able at some point, and time, to slow down and consider that our God came to us, as a helpless baby, to save us all.

Our Christmas party was a good time for all who came! The food was first-class and the games were even better. It was good to see everyone and share some Christmas spirit. I would like to personally thank Donny Gallagher who ran the games that brought so much fun and laughter. To Donny’s family, for setting up and decorating the hall. To John Nussear, a big thank you, who put a lot of time in getting together the prizes and being the chair for the party. Last, but not in the slightest, to Bill Nickum who MC’d the party. Bill jumped in to fill for John at the last minute. Basically Bill MC’d by the seat of his pants and did such a great job you would’ve thought he had rehearsed for days. To my brother Knights who helped look for Rita Miedl’s gift. I know, if I left out somebody, it was by pure loss of brain cells from when I was young! Merry Christmas & a happy New Year!

Jeff Parenteau our Brother Knight lost his brother Gary on the 18th of December. He was 53 years old. From what I understand, Gary died from a heart attack. The Knights came together and helped the family by taking care of the funeral luncheon. By the efforts of Jeff’s family and his brother Knights we were able to feed over 200 people. I have to say, it truly was a miracle. We did all this with less then a weeks planning. The Parenteau’s have donated $500.00 to the Knights to start a fund to help in the future with other brother knights that have a loss in their family. At the Meeting on the 2nd of January we voted to call the fund the “Gary Parenteau Memorial Luncheon Fund” In the future, we as Knights will make sure that our fellow Knights have help when they have a loss in their Family.

May God Bless you & your Family and hold true to the Gospels’ of Jesus Christ’s Church.

Grand Knight

A message from Deacon Bill Nickum!

Why Prayer?

At a time when we are caught up in the excitement of the football playoffs and the Cinderella year that Brett Favre and the Packers have had, I found this interesting article on how he and his wife Deanna face their life struggles.

With the strength that comes from prayer, Green Bay Packer Brett Favre and his wife Deanna credit their Catholic faith with helping them face life's struggles. Among them, Deanna's breast cancer, which has been overcome.

"I just feel like, with faith, it helps me see the good in everything," Deanna said in a telephone interview with The Compass, diocesan newspaper of Green Bay.  At the time she was diagnosed, she and Brett were dealing with several family tragedies, including the death of her younger brother and Brett's father.

Since overcoming breast cancer, Deanna has become a spokeswoman for breast cancer prevention. She founded the Deanna Favre HOPE Foundation in 2005, which provides grants for uninsured and underinsured women battling breast cancer.

Deanna said she and Brett truly believe in the power of prayers and that " It's changed our lives, our family", She also stated that she still prays for her husband for a lot of different reasons and in particular she prays for his protection on the football field each week.

The next Parish Super Sunday is February 3rd

Our first Parish Breakfast of the new year has come and gone;  with a visit from the 3 Wise Men.  Each "Super Sunday" our knights turn out to cook eggs, potatoes, toast, sausage and bacon for our parish families.  We have donuts and coffee, milk and juice to go with the food.

Each time our council members provide breakfast or hospitality for our parish we are doing God's work to help bring together the families of our community.    And, when our friends and neighbors see us working for our Catholic Community they know we are serious in our dedication to our Church.

It makes all of us feel good when our men turn out to serve the parish families on Super Sunday Breakfast, and I can tell our community is impressed because of the comments they make and when how our knights are looked up to.

Keep up the GOOD WORK!
