June 2007
This has been a long 2 years, and for me exciting years. As I think of what being Grand Knight of St. Joan's Council means to me there are several things that come to my mind.
The 1st is, what a wonderful group of men I have become associated with. You are dedicated to our Church, our Parish and this Fraternity for the protection of Families and the underprivileged. I am constantly amazed by the things you do for others.
And the 2nd is, you made my job as Grand Knight's so easy and so enjoyable.
The things we have accomplished in the past 2 years are the result of our working together. The Super Sunday breakfasts we have provided, the trips for youth we have sponsored, our seminarian we have sponsored and the Tootsie Roll money we collected for the Special Education Class at Riverview Middle School are all examples of your dedication to our order and our community.
It has been my privilege!

Membership Open House June 20th Saint Joan's will have an Open House for members and prospective members on Wednesday, June 20th. Deacon Bill Nickum and Jack Doherty will talk about our fraternity and our council at each Mass on Father's Day weekend. Those men who are interested will be invited to the Parish FLC on Wednesday night for our Council Dinner night. If you know someone who is interested in becoming a Knight or someone you think would make a good council member, now is the time to approach him. It is our obligation to offer membership in our fraternity to any practicing Catholic man, over 18. I hope all of you can attend our cookout, Chris Spinner and his crew are planning 'special' food for this year. Be at the FLC by 7:pm on the 20th, so we can all eat together. The friendship of our council members is our best recruiting tool. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ $ Council Money $ Saint Joan's Mothers Day Flower Sale Saint Joan's knights raised more then $400.00 toward our Seminarian Fund at the Mothers Day Plant Sale. The Woodside Florist, located behind North Caroline High School provided the plants to us at no cost so our profit was 100%. Our Parish family came through, as they always do to make our efforts a success. Our Seminarian fund is one of our most important projects. Knights helping Priests and future Priests is the foundation of our association with our Church and we can have no higher calling. Thanks to Walt, Mike Porter, Mike Musachio, Mickey and Mary Usilton, Jack and Dan for making this a big success. We will still have our Summer and Fall Vegetable and Fruit sales to maintain our customers and have a reserve fund. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our Ridgely Strawberry Festival Funnel Cakes are a lot of work and it's a 'hot job'. But our "Funnel Cake Crew" was up to the task and our customers were there for the food. Our crew: Walt Scanlan, Jack Doherty, Mike Chupek and Mike Porter, Mickey and Mary Usilton, Dan Tuel and Bill Nickum were reinforced by Pete Schirmer who had not made his 1st degree yet, but couldn't wait to test his hand at making 'funnel Cakes'. The line of customers began early and stayed all day. The sodas and water sales went up with the temperature, and we ran out of water early. There was another group selling funnel cakes this year but it didn't appear to affect our sales. This year our profit was just over $800.00 and it will go into our general fund to support projects for our parish and youth. Our local Ridgely Veterans were recognized this year and led the parade through town to the park. The men, and 2 women were separated by their dates of service and the Vietnam era group had the largest turn out.

The Fifteen Promises of Mary to Those Who Recite the Rosary
Many Catholics are unaware of the Promises Mary made to the children at Fatima, and to the world.
