The Season of Lent
Exactly, those 40 days (not counting Sundays) before the first Sunday, after the first Full Moon of the Spring Equinox. Or, you can look on the Church Calendar we get every year from Steve Fleegle around Christmas, where it is already marked.
The significance of the 40 days (not counting Sundays) has a long history in the bible i.e. the 40 days, and nights it took Elijah to walk to Mt. Horeb, the 40 days Moses spent on Mt. Sinai and the 40 days Jesus fasted in the wilderness. Just be glad it's not 40 years, as the amount of time the Hebrews spent wandering in the desert.
Our 40 days should be marked by our increase in prayer, our giving to help others and our penance.

Grand Knight
Congratulations to Tom Keating on his new arrival(s) ! !

Welcome our NEW,
3rd Degree Knights
Two of our newest knights have become full fledged knights at the ceremony at Regina Coeli Council in Easton, on March 10th. The 'knighting' was preformed by our State Deputy Edgar Haynes and District Deputy John Smith. Having received the Exemplification of the 3rd Degree is the final step to knighthood and full induction into our Knights of Columbus.
Our new Knights fully vested are:
S/K John Breeding Jr.
and
S/K Richard Williams
John and Rich, though they are new members of our council have shown themselves as active and dedicated members. With their new status as 3rd degree members they will be taking on additional duties in our programs, fundraisers, and council offices.
Be sure to welcome our new Knights and congratulate them on attaining the 3rd degree.

$ Council Money $ Saint Joan's is taking steps to increase our presence at the Caroline County Summer Fest! Brother Knight Jeff Parenteau is chairing a committee for an in-depth study of our Roast Beef Sandwich participation at the Summer Fest in Denton. The committee, with Walt Scanlan, Mike Porter, Chris Spinner and Jeff did an intense study and had several meetings on the things we were doing right, and wrong at the 2 day event in August. Several things have become obvious to our select committee, and they are indexed and itemized in our proposal for changing to how we manage this program. It became obvious, even though we earned more money then ever before last year, we could have done a lot better. Number One, ~ we ran out of beef at our booth several times on both days and at critical periods of time. Number Two, ~ we did not manage our resources of manpower and well. Number Three, ~ we did not have enough roast beef to cook to feed the customers. The committee has several suggestions to improve the way we do business these two day; from the way we cook our roasts to the way transport and sell the sandwiches. This will involve spending some of our reserve money on some equipment to smooth our Roast Beef Sandwich operation. Click here for a list of the suggested Summer Fest Equipment : Spending this money is an important decision for our council and will be voted on at our next Council Business Meeting on April 4th, 2007. There will be a list of improvements to be voted on and we want every knight to be informed and involved. The list of items we need will be published here in our paper newsletter and in our council ledger. ===============================================================================
Wednesday Night Soup and Bread
Saint Joan's Knights cooked the Soup and provided the Bread and crackers
for the Parish on Wednesday, March 21st. We had 5 pots of soup and
by the end of the evening there was very little left.
The selections were Ham and Limas, chili with all the trimmings, vegetable
beef, vegetable crab and vegetable. There was also French bread and
crackers with coffee and tea.
Some of our wives and family came to make it a social night and finishing the evening
at the Chapel for the 'Adoration of the Host'.
Our participation has become an annual event and it comes on our meeting
night. Next year we hope to have more of our family come out and have
supper together.

Our next Super Sunday is on April 1st!
This monthly breakfast we will be calling on some extra help. I have spoken to some of our knights and they will be there to help us in the kitchen and on our line. If I missed you in person accept this notice as a request to come out and offer your services. Many of our old crew will be there to keep things going smoothly.
The reason we are asking you to come out on April 1st, (April Fools Day) is because many of our regular workers will be in Hagerstown, MD, either receiving their 4th degree exemplification or watching the ceremony again. We are counting on our brother knights to fill in for us
Our future Super Sunday Breakfasts are:
Sunday, April 1, - Super Sunday
Sunday, May 6, - Super Sunday - 1st Communion Sunday
Our last breakfast of the year and may be our largest. We may have many visitors.
