Grand Knight's Letter

Grand Knight Letter

It seems like we just started talking about the Fall and now we are looking at Christmas. But before we get to Christmas, we still have Thanksgiving to observe. A couple of things to remember, be safe if you are traveling to see loved ones and  pray for the people that will not have a Thanksgiving and/or will be alone on this holiday.

The Tootsie Roll is in full swing Thanks to Mickey & Mary Usilton. If you see them please ask them if they could use a hand in handing them out and collecting donations.

The Knights Christmas Dinner is Wednesday the 19th of December (would normally be our 2nd meeting [social] of the month). It will start at 6:30PM with some Christmas fun and a dinner (Not sure what the fun is yet!). I look forward to seeing all of you as well as enjoying the holiday with my fellow Brother Knights.

God bless

GK

Meeting nights

1st and 3rd Wednesdays

The end of the calendar year is a busy time!

The November 21st meeting will be a busy one considering all the topics we have to cover.  The Committee Meeting will be less formal then the Business Meeting so we should get everything covered.  The agenda will cover:

            1. The Parish Bazaar (we will have on November 17th)

            2. The Seminarian selection for our $500,00 donation

            3. Organization for the Membership Drive, we're having on December 2nd

            4. Our annual Tootsie Roll drive for the benefit of Special Ed. Kids

            5. The Council Christmas Party, to be held on December 19th.

            6. Our annual poster contest for the CCD kids "Keeping Christ in Christmas"

Medic Alert Identification!

When 'first responders' come they are trained to look for any medical information that is relative to the person they are treating.  In many cases that information can be a mater of life or death to the patient.  Allergic reactions to drugs, special information for treatments and someone to contact in case of emergencies is typical information on these bracelets or necklaces.

Who needs these lifesaving devices?  Maybe you if you have a serious allergy to a medicine like penicillin or a food like peanuts, or milk;  but especially if you can't communicate to the first responder.  Saint Joan of Arc members recognize the importance of these identifiers and we have donated $250.00 to the Caroline Center in Ridgely for the purchase of "Medic Alert" bracelets and necklaces' for their clients.

November 17th is the Church Bazaar

As we did last year we have fruit and vegetables at the Parish Bazaar.   Not inside but our crew will set up the tent and we will be outside next to the church by the drive way.  From here we will see customers coming and going and we can be seen from the road by passers-by.

Walt, Mickey, John and Rich at our Produce Stand 11/17/07

Our knights where there all day, at the  the booth.  We also served our community by assisting the customers with their purchase bags if necessary.   This is always a fun time and we make a lot of friends.

Saint Joan's Knights will be raising money for a local Special Ed. program

The Tootsie Roll Giveaway is our program to collect donations for our Special Education Award given each year to a local school's program for their handicapped children.  Lead by our best team, Mickey and Mary Usilton we are attempting to top the amount we raised last year for our 'Special Kids'.

When you are contacted, please give a few hours of your time to stand the "Tootsie Roll Watch" and help us reach our goal.  This is the one fundraiser where the money goes to our community to help really deserving children.

Last year our check for $840.00 went to Lockerman Middle School for their Special Ed. Program.  In past years our donation money has gone to the Benedictine School and Denton and Ridgely Elementary.

Parish Super Sunday's

Saint Joan's continues to 'Feed the Masses' (after Mass) on Super Sundays!

Each month our knights have turned out in force to work in the kitchen, on the line and cleaning up.  We are having a really good membership response this year (don't slack off now) which gives each of us time to enjoy our own breakfast and visit with our family and friends.  This is also an excellent time to talk to a 'Qualified Catholic Man' about joining us in our service to our church, our parish and community.

It makes all of us feel good when our men turn out to serve the parish families on Super Sunday Breakfast, and I can tell our community is impressed because of the comments they make and when how our knights are looked up to.

Keep up the GOOD WORK!
