Grand Knight Letter

October 2007

It appears like Fall is here, but the warmth of Summer seems to hang on. Looks like a good time to hand out some Tootsie Rolls. Yup it’s that time of year again, and of course, Mickey & Mary Usilton will be out, giving away Tootsie Rolls looking for donations. I’m sure Mickey & Mary could use some help. So please think about offering your time to help with the Tootsie Roll drive. You can contact me or Mickey to help.

In the October Meeting as with all the business, I’m trying to keep the meeting down to an hour or less. (Donny Gallagher, Past Grand Knight, said that will be hard to do, but that is one of my goals this year is to keep it “short and sweet”.) Therefore, I hope and pray that more of our Brother Knights take the time to come to our meetings (an Hour a Month), and to be involved with the determining the direction and the goals of our council.

We are also taking about 10 to 15 mins at the end of our Meeting to have a little spiritual time. Yes, we all have been through Religious education at one time, but I know as a fact that even our Pope still takes time to learn and grow in his faith. So I think taking 10 to 15 mins at the end of our meeting can('t) anything but, be a positive thing for us. So plan to come to our next meeting and help at least myself grow in my faith.

Meeting nights

1st and 3rd Wednesdays

Our next meeting is a Family Social

October 17th is the night of our Parish "Living Rosary" in the Family Life Center.  Our council is helping with this event and we encourage everyone to attend.  We can show the parish our family kinship by bring our family's to the Adoration of the Blessed Mother.

Several of our knights will be leading a decade of prayers for our Lady.  This is a regular meeting night.

3 more Knights needed!

Don't forget our goal for membership this year is at least 5 new members.  With the addition of Dan and Joe we still need 3 more men.  There are many men in our parish who are interested in our fraternity and would jump at the chance to join our ranks.  It is our responsibility to find them and encourage them to take that first step.

Don't be put off by anyone's youth or age;  we need the strength of youth as well as the experience of the 'more mature'.  As we increase our membership we can better help our parish, community and church.  Take that first step, introduce yourself as a knight and tell our brother Catholics what we are about.

November 17th is the Church Bazaar

We will participate with our Fall Flower, Fruit and vegetable Sale, as we did last year.  The Musachio family, Mike and Anne will supply the produce again that was received so well in the years past.  Our crew will set up the tent and a couple tables next to the church by the drive way.

Our knights will be there all day, so come out and help us man the booth.  We also serve our community by assisting the customers with their purchase bags if necessary.   This is always a fun time and we make a lot of friends.

Saint Joan's Knights will be raising money for a local Special Ed. program

The Tootsie Roll Giveaway is our program to collect donations for our Special Education Award given each year to a local school's program for their handicapped children.  Lead by our best team, Mickey and Mary Usilton we are attempting to top the amount we raised last year for our 'Special Kids'.

When you are contacted, please give a few hours of your time to stand the "Tootsie Roll Watch" and help us reach our goal.  This is the one fundraiser where the money goes to our community to help really deserving children.

Last year our check for $840.00 went to Lockerman Middle School for their Special Ed. Program.  In past years our donation money has gone to the Benedictine School and Denton and Ridgely Elementary.

Parish Super Sunday's

Saint Joan's continues to 'Feed the Masses' (after Mass) on Super Sundays!

Each month our knights have turned out in force to work in the kitchen, on the line and cleaning up.  We are having a really good membership response this year (don't slack off now) which gives each of us time to enjoy our own breakfast and visit with our family and friends.  This is also an excellent time to talk to a 'Qualified Catholic Man' about joining us in our service to our church, our parish and community.

It makes all of us feel good when our men turn out to serve the parish families on Super Sunday Breakfast, and I can tell our community is impressed because of the comments they make and when how our knights are looked up to.

Keep up the GOOD WORK!
