RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS
FROM THE DESK OF JAYNIE TAYLOR, DRE….
ADULT CONFIRMATION
Are you an adult (over 18 years of age) baptized Catholic who has not yet been confirmed? Please take
a moment to consider what the Church teaches us about this Sacrament. The catechism of the Catholic
Church states, “Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace, it is the sacrament which gives the Holy Spirit in
order to root us more deeply in the divine filiation, incorporate us more firmly into Christ, strengthen our
bond with the Church, associate us more closely with her mission, and help us bear witness to the
Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds.” [1316]. As can be seen, the Sacrament of Confirmation
continues the initiation of the baptized into fullness of Christian life within the Church. Those who receive
Confirmation answer the call to put their faith into action by responsibly witnessing to Christ in word and
deed. As we live our lives in Christ, we must always be mindful that it is our baptismal responsibility to
spread and defend the faith. If you desire to deepen your spiritual life within the Church, you are invited to
attend our Adult Confirmation classes. Please call the Office of Religious Education if you, or someone
you know, are interested!
Sessions begin this Sunday, April 23RD at 7:00 p.m. in the FLC
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES CLOSING CEREMONIES
Closing Ceremonies will be held next Sunday, April
30th Children will meet at 9:40, our regular time, in
the classrooms. We will then proceed to St. Benedict’s Church at 10:00 for closing prayer and a blessing
for our 8th graders as they continue their journey into Youth Ministry. Recognition certificates for perfect
attendance will also be given at that time. Parents are welcome! All other certificates of promotion will be
distributed in the respective classrooms. If your child is unable to attend the ceremony, call the Office of
Rel. Ed. to make arrangements to pick up your child’s certificate. If your child does not receive a
certificate of promotion, you will need to arrange a meeting with the catechist and the DRE to discuss the
situation.
YOUR BAPTISMAL CALL COMES ALIVE
A catechist is faithful to the past, open to the future, but especially dedicated to deepening the faith of
the present generation.
A catechist is the backbone of the Mystical Body of Christ and the guarantee that the Bible will be
printed tomorrow.
A catechist is the busiest person in the parish, who somehow finds time to do those important things,
which everyone else is too busy to do.
A catechist is faith, hope and love attached to arms and legs, aches and pains, family duties and not
enough time.
Their salary? $0.00, but priceless riches from their God, fellow catechists, and those they teach. Why not
think of joining them? We can always use a few good men and women!
Please call Jaynie Taylor, (410) 634-1921 for more information.
FIRST EUCHARIST
Our “Bread of Life” Retreat will be held this
Sunday, April 23rd from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
On this retreat, we will play, learn, and pray to gain a better understanding of God, others and ourselves.
Adults are reminded to bring the bread or items they signed up for. All make-up work should be done by
that time. I ask that you bring the Banners back to me as soon as possible. They will be used on the Pew
ends to mark the row, one for each family. See you there!
