Section 5. In the event any member is absent without cause from three consecutive regular
meetings or whose actions become a cause of public scandal, his or her resignation may be
requested by the council. The resignation of any member, whether voluntary or requested, shall
be effective only upon passage of a resolution of acceptance by the council.
ARTICLE IV –
MEMBERSHIP
Section 1.
The Council shall have not more than fourteen (14), and not less than nine (9) members.
Section 2.
The Council shall have three types of membership: automatic or ex officio elected and
.appointed.
Section 3(a). The Pastor shall take active part in the Council’s work, but shall have no vote. He
shall be the presiding officer.
Section 3(b). All associate pastors assigned to the parish shall be automatic members of the
Council. They shall have full voice in its deliberations and voting rights.
Section 3(c). If a permanent deacon is assigned to the St. Benedict’s Parish then he is
automatically an ex officio member and serves on the council and has full voice and voting
rights.
Section 4. (Number comprising at least one-half of the total Council membership) lay persons
who are members of the parish shall be elected by the parish community to the Council. These
members have full voice in Council deliberations and voting rights. They are to be elected
according to the procedures specified in Article VII “Elections”.
Section 5(a). The pastor, after consultation with council members shall name not more than
(number comprising no more than one-third of the total council membership) lay persons to be
appointed members. In making these appointments, the pastor shall endeavor, so far as is
practical, to achieve a full representation of the parish community on the Council. Such
appointments are made on an annual basis and are renewable.
Section 5(b). All persons meeting the same qualifications listed in ARTICLE V Section 1(a) shall
be eligible for appointment to the Council.
